Eating Roaches

Well, I hate to break it to you but eating roaches has been an action you have been doing for a long time.

Fact is, you have already eaten loads of cockroaches. The FDA limits how much roaches can be in your meal. For instance, an average human can only have only 800 or more insect fragments per 10 grams in shredded carrots.

So, tell me, are you still alive after eating them?

Is Eating Roaches Safe?

Yes, you can safely consume cockroaches! Just not the ones running around in your home. To be honest, roaches are super clean and tasty insects, especially if they are fed on fresh vegetables and fruits.

Can You eat Cockroaches?

Yes, you can eat cockroaches. However, ensure they’re bred them in a hygienic environment, eat proper food with nothing synthetic in their diet.

Humans have lived well on roaches and bugs for millennia, but it would be unwise to eat the ones you find round your home because there is a high possibility they have been sprayed with insecticides that have failed to kill them, or they live in worse conditions that makes them carriers of unthinkable diseases and infection.

However, a free-range cockroach like the one you might come in contact with on a pristine woodland might be a fair game entirely.

I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to eat a chicken or cow that lives behind baseboards. Remember, you are what you eat.

Can You Die from Eating a Cockroach?

No you won’t, assuming you’re talking about the roach parts you consume as part of processed foods on a daily basis. Those little pieces and bits are streamed, mashed, boiled, pureed, and most of all, sterilized before they reach your mouth (and believe you me, they do).

Now, if a roach finds it way in your mouth while you’re sleeping and you crunch it….Meh, don’t worry about it. Cockroaches are good cleaners, so the only worry would be intestinal and/or worms parasites.

You might have even had so many and probably wouldn’t even notice them, tbh.

In some Asian countries, cockroach is eaten fried whole and sold as a street snack to tourists. It’s no wonder some people say things like – Have you ever been to cockroach eating China?

Can You eat Cockroaches Raw?

If you farm your own hygienically, I’d bet it’s safe. However, if you caught any, I wouldn’t advise you eat it raw.

Why? Because you have no idea where it’s been. It could have crawled through insecticides, or picked up all bacteria from sewers, drainage systems etc. If you still want to eat it, you should wash it off and cook it a bit to try to kill anything.

There could also be a chance that you’re allergic to it.

Can You eat a Wild Cockroach?

Unless convinced it lived in a location with good conditions, I wouldn’t recommend it.

If you do manage to eat a wild roach without cooking or cleansing it, here is what to expect:

A Nasty Smell: Roaches release a substance that is foul smelling

A Chance of Visiting the Clinic as a Patient: Roaches themselves are not unclean animals, but wild roaches at times feed on human feces (as easy meals), and might be carriers of pests like fleas and pesticides that can cause harm when swallowed.

If allergic, a reaction: Some humans with allergic reaction should avoid eating them.

I recommend cleaning and cooking it first before eating it.

Eating Cockroaches Alive – Is it safe?

Yes, as far as you eat fresh ones that are hygienically bred. If you must, look for fresh clean insects that have not been exposed to pesticides or poisons or pathogens. You can have it cooked and seasoned to enjoy its crunchy taste.

If you’re allergic to it, they can make you sick.

A friend once ate a live cockroach in a bug eating contest and he was fine.

How to Eat a Live Cockroach?

Note: Ensure the ones you choose to eat are bred in a hygienic environment, they eat proper food – and are fresh.

  1. Put it in your mouth.
  2. Chew fast because the cockroach will fight back.
  3. Try to avoid thinking about the taste, throwing up, or spitting it out.
  4. Swallow, and follow step 3 again.
  5. You’re done, and still alive.

I recommend eating a dead, deep fried roach. It is a more better experience.
